2025 in Review: Bathroom Furniture

Europe's bathroom furniture market delivered a surprising performance in 2025. While residential construction remained subdued across many countries and housing completions continued to decline in several major markets, demand for bathroom furniture proved more resilient than expected.

The latest BRG data suggests that the market is no longer being driven primarily by new build activity. Instead, growth is increasingly being generated by renovation projects, bathroom modernisation programmes, and consumers upgrading to larger vanity units, mirror cabinets and coordinated furniture collections. As a result, bathroom furniture is gradually evolving from a functional purchase into a central component of bathroom design, with storage, aesthetics and integrated features playing a larger role in specification decisions.

This shift was evident throughout 2025 and helps explain why some furniture categories outperformed wider construction activity.

Renovation Demand Supports Base Unit and Bathroom Furniture Collections

Base units remain the largest furniture category across Europe and continued to benefit from bathroom refurbishment activity during 2025. While performance varied between countries, several markets recorded healthy growth despite challenging conditions within the residential construction sector.

The increasingly important role of base units within overall bathroom design is helping to support demand. Rather than being viewed simply as storage units, base units are becoming focal points within modern bathroom schemes, particularly in mid-range and premium renovation projects. Larger units, wall hung designs and coordinated furniture collections remain key specification trends as homeowners seek solutions that combine practicality with contemporary styling.

The data also highlights a growing disconnect between furniture demand and new housing activity. Although some markets continue to experience pressure from weaker construction pipelines, investment in existing housing stock is helping to offset part of this weakness and create opportunities for furniture manufacturers positioned in the renovation segment.

Mirror Cabinets Continue to Move Up the Specification Ladder

Mirror cabinets and illuminated mirrors were among the strongest performing areas of the market during 2025, reflecting changing consumer expectations and rising specification levels.

Integrated LED lighting, demisting functions, charging points and enhanced storage features have transformed mirrors from simple accessories into multi-functional bathroom products. In many projects, upgrading the mirror area offers a relatively cost-effective way to modernise the overall appearance of a bathroom, helping to support demand even when larger renovation budgets remain constrained.

The category also benefits from broader design trends. Consumers increasingly favour streamlined and coordinated bathroom environments, with mirror cabinets playing an important role in delivering both storage and visual appeal.

Storage Becomes a Key Purchasing Driver

One of the most significant trends visible across the European bathroom furniture market is the growing importance of storage.

Changing lifestyles, smaller living spaces in urban areas, and increasing expectations around organisation and functionality are all supporting demand for additional storage solutions. Separate cabinets, tall units and modular furniture systems continue to gain traction as consumers look to maximise available space without compromising design.

This trend is also influencing how bathrooms are specified. Rather than purchasing individual products, homeowners and developers are increasingly selecting complete furniture solutions, often combining vanities, mirror cabinets and supplementary storage units within a coordinated design package.

The result is a gradual shift towards larger furniture purchases and higher overall specification levels across many refurbishment projects.

Furniture Becomes Increasingly Design-Led

Beyond the volume trends, 2025 reinforced several important changes in the way bathroom furniture is positioned within the market.

Wall hung furniture continues to gain share across much of Europe, supported by minimalist design preferences and the perception of creating more spacious bathroom environments. Coordinated furniture ranges and matching finishes are becoming increasingly popular, while manufacturers continue to expand offerings that combine storage, lighting and design within a single solution.

Sustainability is also becoming a more visible consideration in purchasing decisions. Demand for durable products, responsibly sourced materials and longer replacement cycles is gradually influencing product development and specification choices, particularly within Western European markets.

Taken together, these developments point towards a market where furniture is increasingly viewed as an interior design category rather than simply a functional bathroom component.

Short-Term Outlook: 2026-2027

Renovation activity is expected to remain the primary driver of growth across the European bathroom furniture market. While new residential construction is likely to remain subdued in several countries, ongoing investment in housing upgrades, hospitality refurbishments and bathroom modernisation programmes should continue to support demand.

The key theme emerging from the latest BRG forecasts is that bathroom furniture is becoming increasingly detached from the traditional construction cycle. Design, functionality and lifestyle considerations are playing a greater role in demand, creating opportunities for manufacturers that can deliver complete, high-specification furniture solutions rather than standalone products.
